KOLKATA, (C.M. Paul) – Teenage artist Master
Arnab Gan Choudhury of Don Bosco School Park Circus rendered a portrait of Don Bosco, the friend of youth on the occasion of the Relic visit to Kolkata. It was officially presented to principal of the school at the inaugural of two day Bosco Fest 2011 in the presence of his father Mr Tapash Gan Choudhury, Advocate at Calcutta High Court, and former President of Calcutta Press Club Mr Shyamal B Roy, 29th July 2011.
This is a lovely painting of Don Bosco and we are going to install it in our school chapel,” said Principal & Rector Fr Siby Vadakel complimenting Arnab.
The medium I have used is acrylic on canvas and dated it 17 July 2011, the very day Don Bosco Relic was honoured in our school,” said Master Arnab.
Born on 24 October 1994, the child artist had his solo art exhibition at age 4+ at Nehru Children’s Museum Kolkata in 1999. Currently a student of Cass XI, Master Arnab is an accomplished artist who has conducted four solo exhibitions, one group exhibition and an art workshop.
At the age of 15+ he executed his first commissioned work, a portrait of the undivided Congress party leader late Shri Atulya Ghosh. It was commissioned by Dr B.C. Roy Memorial Committee, Kolkata.
In 2009 at age 15+ he was the sole judge of an art competition organized by Calcutta Press Club.
At the age of 4+ Arnab hit the headlines twice in 1999 in The Statesman Kolkata which declared him “Small Wonder” and later brought out a special feature entitled ‘Child Artist’ in Voices on the occasion of the 50th Year Indian Independence.
The Statesman, Kolkata devoted a half page in Life Style under the title ‘Prodigal Strokes’ in 2006.
Several other newspapers including Ananda Bazar and The Telegraph also featured him in 2001 and 2002 respectively.
Among four TV Channels that did documentary films on Master Arnab areETV-HelloIndia(1997), Tara News Broadcasting (2002), Doordarshan Kendra, Kolkata (2005), and Kolkata TV (2006).
Among collectors of Arnab’s art works are: portrait of former Chief Minister of Bengal Shri Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, painting of horses given to Nehru Children’s Museum, Kolkata, Santa Claus given to Don Bosco Park Circus, Kolkata, and a portrait of the Governor of West Bengal Shri M.K. Narayanan
